The excellent run in the 2nd Division is matched in the Portuguese Cup, with FC Famalicão being dubbed the “Giantkillers” by eliminating Elvas and Olhanense, two 1st Division teams, before reaching the semi-finals against Sporting CP, at the time the dominant force in Portuguese football, with their “5 violins”. And it is only against this Sporting that FC Famalicão is defeated… 11-0 is a heavy defeat but a moment unmatched so far with that presence in the semi-finals of the Cup.
